IGP Day – Insights into Music Pedagogy
Music is an essential part of our society. Instrumental and vocal educators play a crucial role in bringing music from diverse genres and cultures closer to people of all ages. The IGP Day offers a comprehensive introduction to instrumental and vocal pedagogy. Through lectures, practical workshops, and interactive sessions, participants gain valuable insights into didactic concepts, lesson planning, and musical education.
This event is aimed at students, teachers, and anyone interested in learning more about the practice and development of music education programs.
About: Mel Verez
Mel Verez is a university-trained singer and music manager, active as a vocalist, live performer, studio musician, and educator. With many years of teaching experience, she has been training aspiring vocal pedagogues at VMI. Her concert activities have taken her across numerous European countries and beyond, performing with outstanding musicians and bands. Once again, she will be leading IGP Day 2025 this year.
PROGRAM
Lecture by Dr. Fred Eisler & Lukas Schönsgibl
The "Hearing Situation" at Music Schools
This 1.5-hour lecture will cover essential aspects of applications and invitations to a hearing at a public music school. Following the theoretical part, practical "hearing" situations will be presented in the form of role-playing exercises, which will then be discussed interactively with students.

Fundamentals of Vocal Pedagogy
This lecture provides insights into the essential topics of vocal pedagogy, covering didactics in vocal instruction, teaching methods, lesson planning and concepts, learning goal taxonomy, and the learning fields according to Anselm Ernst.
Lecture by Alexander Lackner
Introduction to IGP
This lecture offers an overview of musical education and the development of music pedagogy programs, particularly focusing on the independent and dynamic IGP program at VMI. After a general introduction to music education, the history, objectives, and structure of the program will be presented. This will be followed by an opportunity for discussion over coffee.

Vocal Physiology and Practical Exercises
This practical session will focus on specific vocal techniques, including vocal cord closure, posture, vocal range, and vocal placement. The emphasis will be on recognizing these aspects in students and addressing them effectively through appropriate exercises.
Lecture by Oliver Steger
Didactics in Bass Instruction
The teaching of electric and double bass focuses on enabling students to start playing and improvising as early as possible. Practical lessons with a beginner and an advanced student will illustrate this approach. Depending on participation, audience members may also be involved.
